It’s been an epic week for the NBA Summer League. I can’t believe how intense the games have gotten. Last night I watched the Houston Rockets go toe-to-toe with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Rockets secured a 95-89 victory, a close call indeed. The entire game was intense, with Jalen Green dropping 25 points. Can you imagine? Twenty-five! I swear, that kid is a scoring machine and has a bright future ahead.
Earlier in the week, the Golden State Warriors had a massive showdown against the Chicago Bulls. They didn't just win; they dominated with a 15-point margin, bringing the final score to 101-86. Moses Moody was on fire; with his 28 points and excellent field goal percentage of 70%, he's undoubtedly someone to keep an eye on. The Warriors seem to be investing a lot in their younger players, and it's clearly paying off.
I was also catching up on the Detroit Pistons vs. Orlando Magic game. Man, Cade Cunningham is living up to the hype. He scored a solid 20 points, and his defensive stats were even more impressive with 3 steals and 2 blocks. The Pistons clinched it 88-80. It’s remarkable how Cunningham is already showing signs of being a franchise cornerstone.
On a different note, the Boston Celtics have been struggling a bit. They went up against the New York Knicks, losing narrowly in a heart-wrenching 97-94 finish. RJ Barrett was incredible, dropping a crucial 27 points and hitting a game-winning three-pointer in the last 5 seconds. Will the Celtics bounce back? Time will tell.
Let's talk about the Miami Heat for a moment. They played the Dallas Mavericks and came out on top with a decisive 110-102 scoreline. Bam Adebayo was a force to be reckoned with, recording a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Efficiency was the name of the game for Miami; they managed a field goal percentage of 55% and completely outclassed Dallas. Luka Dončić, although phenomenal with his 35 points, couldn’t carry the Mavericks to victory single-handedly.
How could I forget the battle between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers? Let's just say it was one for the books. Talen Horton-Tucker scored 30 points, leading the Lakers to a 105-99 triumph. This game had everything—a fast pace, solid defense, and clutch shooting. If you missed it, you missed a thriller.
The Milwaukee Bucks also had a good run against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Bucks came out on top with an 86-75 win. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s younger brother, Thanasis, put up solid numbers with 18 points and 9 rebounds. It feels like there’s no stopping the Antetokounmpo brothers; their athleticism is off the charts.
Charlotte Hornets vs. Sacramento Kings was surprisingly competitive. Both teams are often underrated, but last night's 92-90 victory for the Hornets was worth every second. LaMelo Ball had a near triple-double, hitting 17 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds. You can see how dynamically he controls the game; it’s almost mesmerizing.
The Phoenix Suns had a rough night against the Memphis Grizzlies, losing 85-78. Jaren Jackson Jr. was the standout performer, netting 24 points and adding 7 rebounds to his stat line. The Suns seemed out of rhythm, and their shooting percentage of 40% reflected that.
Atlanta Hawks were another team to watch. They played against the Indiana Pacers and won 99-94. Trae Young was unstoppable, amassing 32 points and 8 assists. He’s one of those players who can change the game instantly. His ability to read defenses is something special. The Hawks’ defensive strategy was also impressive; they managed to limit the Pacers' primary scoring options effectively.
